Mr Ewen Macleod

Mr Ewen Macleod

Division of Resilience and Solutions, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)

Biography:

During the course of a thirty year career for the United Nations and the European Commission I have worked on many protracted crises and situations in Asia, the Middle East and Africa. I have held a range of advisory, technical and management positions both at headquarters and in the field. In my current role, I oversee the work of a Division that is exploring new approaches to addressing the refugee problem as the subject of political and security tensions among states and the problems of refugees as vulnerable communities and individuals facing political, economic and social exclusion. In both domains, a particular focus of my work is improving the organization's capacity to develop the data and analytics required for evidence based policy and developing new partnerships to broaden international and national engagement with the forced displacement agenda.

Research Interests

I am interested in solutions to protracted crisis situations in fragile, conflict and violence affected states, development responses to forced displacement and migration, the consequences of displacement on household poverty and welfare indicators, and the political economy of state responses to refugee and forced migration crises.
