Mr Gareth Leung

MPhil in Public Health Graduate, Department of Public Health and Primary Care


Gareth Leung is a graduate of the MPhil programme in Public Health at the University of Cambridge and is currently a medical student in Canada. As a Canadian Queen Elizabeth Scholar, he had the privilege to work at the Caribbean Public Health Agency in Trinidad to collaborate on an international nutrition policy and develop a data collection system. At Cambridge, Gareth found his interest in advancing health equity and took on leadership positions with Cambridge Health Leaders, and Cambridge University Students on Social Policy. He became inspired to make a global impact and collaborates with Impact Through Innovation Cambridge to help engineer low-cost healthcare devices for low-income countries. Gareth currently serves as a reviewer of the Harvard Public Health Review.

Research Interests

Gareth has broad academic interests related to medicine and has been conducting epidemiological research on marginalized populations in low and middle-income countries. He is currently investigating the cardiovascular health of Indigenous Canadians and road traffic safety in South-East Asia.
