Research

  • Research on the construction of 'race', 'class' and 'culture' in mid-Victorian England, through the prism of a London Irish slum.
  • Attempting to show how slum residents could be instrumental to the wider economy and embedded within local structures of power and politics, yet were nonetheless understood as sharing a disreputable lifestyle and culture rooted in their origins in Ireland.
