Sophie is a PhD Candidate at School of Advanced Study, University of London. Her thesis is entitled 'State of Origin Responsibility in the Context of Forced Displacement.'

Sophie completed a Master of Advanced Study in International Law of Armed Conflict at the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights, Switzerland, where she wrote her thesis on ‘Disruption of the asylum-jurisdiction nexus: trends in EU State practice post-Hirsi and the response by the European Court of Human Rights’. Sophie completed her Juris Doctor at RMIT University, Australia, and previously completed a Master of Applied Linguistics at Monash University, Australia.

Sophie has published academic and non-academic articles on refugee law and has presented her research at academic conferences. She is currently a member of the editorial board of the Working Paper Series at the Refugee Law Initiative, of which she is also a research affiliate.

Sophie has worked in legal research across several fields of public international law, but with a particular emphasis on refugee law.


State responsibility in the context of forced displacement; drivers in internal and cross-border forced displacement; development, implementation, and consequences of national and regional asylum law and policy; litigation of asylum law.
