The Centre for the Study of Global Human Movement

Convenors: Tugba Basaran and Didier Bigo

This initiative presents an attempt to enhance collaboration between Anglophone and Francophone traditions of thoughts and methods, ways of mediating theory and practice and traversing established academic cultures. Many researchers crossing from Anglophone to Francophone scholarship (or vice versa) do not only encounter linguistic barriers, but cultural barriers and disciplinary barriers. Through this initiative, we seek to create a platform for collaboration to facilitate innovative research on questions of movement, mobility, migration in relation to borders, border controls, surveillance, and international cooperation. We will encourage scholars to write across disciplines and academic cultures, to open up orthodox conventions, pluralize modes of thinking and writing and move towards greater transversality.
