Biography

Mayumi is a doctoral researcher pursuing a PhD in the Department of Sociology and is a member of Trinity Hall. Her research interests lie at the intersection between environmental justice, transnational solidarities, anti-racism, and decolonization. Her work is is predominantly focused on practices of environmental resistance and land-based struggles in the Global South. She holds a BA in Geography from McGill University and a MPhil in Sociology from the University of Cambridge. Her PhD is funded by the Gates Cambridge Scholarship.

Research

Mayumi is interested in how communities who have been and are undergoing forced displacement are resisting through land-based knowledge and organizing in pursuit of self-determination, liberation, and environmentally-just futures.
