Biography

Dr Burgess is the Acting Director of Cambridge Centre for Housing and Planning Research, part of the University of Cambridge Department of Land Economy, and a Bye-Fellow of Newnham College.

Having studied in the Department of Geography at the University of Cambridge for her BA, MPhil and PhD, Gemma has worked for CCHPR since 2008. Gemma is an experienced researcher and project manager, with a strong track record of securing grant funding for research, and she is widely published.

Migration and housing are inextricably linked. Gemma’s research interests include the relationship between housing and ageing, and equality issues more broadly. Her other main strand of research focuses on land supply, the planning system, house building, planning obligations and the delivery of affordable housing through the planning system.
